Why not develop your children`s classfication skills through the theme of Halloween ?
Using a large packet of Halloween shaped sweets or novelties per group ask the children to classify them in whatever way they choose.
Rotate the groups around to see if they can work out how the previous group sorted the ghouls and ghosties and ask them to stick post its on to show the criteria. Can they add another sweet to each group ?
To challenge the children see if they can sort the sweets into Venn, Carrol diagrams or create an identification key to sort them.
One way to record their classifications is to use either Real Time Board (free download for teachers) or if your school has iPads then download the Skitch app. Scroll down Education gurus news page to find more Haloween activities to engage your children and develop science skills and knowledge.
