6th Mar 2019

This is the 22nd year there’s been a World Book Day, children of all ages will come together to appreciate reading. The main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

Using stories and poems to give science a creative context is a great way to enthuse children about science and make those cross curricular links. Stories & poems can be used for Keys stage 2 as well as key stage 1.

Education Guru knows that some teachers find it a bit difficult to know which story or poem to use to teach science topics, so we have created resources to support each primary year group to do just this. Click on the folder for a free lesson plan that shows how to use Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson to help teach about offspring in the year 2 Animals strand of the curriculum.

A poetry book we wouldn’t do without is Centrally Heated knickers by Michael Rosen which is full of science poems to use in all areas of the science curriculum. Follow this link to download another free Education Guru lesson plan that uses Periscope by Michael Rosen to help teach light in Year 6 .

The packs can be bought per year group, key stage or as a whole school pack. They give a story or poem for each topic taught in each year group. The price starts at just £5.99 for a year group set of plans.
