7. In A Galaxy Far, Far, Away: Science Through Stories, Films And Poetry

Films, stories, and poetry are excellent ways to engage children in science. Could your children help Peter Rabbit grow the largest carrot? Would they be able to identify which type of tree the Magic Faraway tree was? Perhaps they could work out why the fairy lights keep going out in Michael Rosen`s poem. Maybe they could help classify the magical creatures in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. During the day we will explore all sorts of exciting ways to teach science using children`s favourite films, books and poems.

As a result of this course, you will be able to:

  • Enthuse your children to be able to plan, carry out, and evaluate investigations that will develop their science skills and knowledge.

  • Create alternative learning opportunities to develop pupils` progress in science.

  • Develop cross-curricular links to other areas of the curriculum.
