12. Open Air Science
The great outdoors can be an excellent place to teach science all year round. The lack of walls makes children feel more relaxed, and they can develop their science thinking by applying it to the real world. This course will give you lots of ideas for outdoor learning, from teaching about ecosystems to exploring the weather. It will provide you with the skills you need to inspire your pupils to discuss, explore, and experiment outside. It will give you the confidence to plan and deliver engaging and stimulating outdoor learning in a range of spaces, from the school playground to the local woodland. During the day, we will look at some of the teaching resources that are available to you.
As a result of this course, you will be able to:
-
Support the children to plan, deliver, and evaluate practical outdoor scientific investigations that will develop their science skills and knowledge.
-
Adapt ideas for the use of outdoor space to your own environment and identify local opportunities.
-
Enrich learning outside the classroom with some engaging and practical ideas and resources.
