This course empowers teachers to design meaningful, manageable assessment practices that support both progression and curiosity in primary science. Participants will explore a variety of effective strategies to assess student understanding, while ensuring that assessments enhance the learning journey rather than interrupt it.
Key strategies explored during the session include:
Designing assessment-rich learning journeys that align with scientific enquiry and conceptual development.
Using formative assessment tools like concept cartoons, talking tubs, and Big books to encourage active engagement and deeper thinking.
Moderating pupil work and collaboratively identifying next steps for individual students, with a focus on clear, actionable feedback.
Implementing learning walks to assess the effectiveness of teaching and identify areas for improvement, while capturing real-time feedback from students on their learning experiences.
