Michael Rosen does it again

Here at Education Guru we are huge fans of Michael Rosen and use his poetry whenever possible as a way into teaching science. We are so pleased with the recovery he has made after Covid and wish him well.

One of his newest poems Listening-Thinking demonstrates the idea of encouraging children to WONDER about the world they ljve in. You could start the lesson off with this poem which first talks about the sounds that can or can't be heard in the house, leading to wondering why in September all the spiders decide to come into the house.

Just giving the children time to wonder about something and explore different children's thoughts on a topic can lead to some amazing and creative investigations and learning. This lesson could be used to develop Working Scientifically skills and discussions while looking at LO around habitats, life cycles and classification.
