Stay safe when it gets dark

Now that the nights are drawing in you can get the whole class involved with some data collection, all you need is them wearing their coats, a torch and a data logger. Ask them to take a look at each others coats and predict which one will reflect the most light to say safe on their journey home from school. Get the children to put themselves in a line from least reflective to most reflective. Ask them why they have chosen the order. What properties do the coats that they think will keep them safest have? Then in a darkened room shine a torch on each coat to see how much light is reflected.

Using a DATA HARVEST Vu+ logger will really help them collect accurate data which they can then plot on a graph. https://store.data-harvest.co.uk/vu We think this is the easiest data logger on the market and it can be used across the whole age range from nursery to year 6.
